Accounting / Office Assistant – Head Office - Winnipeg

We are currently looking for an Accounting/Office Assistant to join the small team at our head office, located in Winnipeg. This is a full-time position.

While this position will initially be based around accounting functions, we are looking for a “Jack of all Trades” who will be interested learning new tasks, facing new challenges and be willing and able to "step-up" in a variety of areas. Our business is growing and we are looking for someone who can not only keep up, but rather make a significant contribution to our growth. In a small team like ours, everyone must be prepared to cover a variety of functions.

Due to availability of the person doing the training for this position, employment during the initial training period will be on a part-time basis. We estimate 20-30 hours per week during the initial training phase and ramping up from there. Upon successful completion of training and demonstration of required skills, comprehension and abilities, and the completion of a probationary period, this position would become a permanent, full time position.

This position generally operates days, Monday through Friday. It is possible that some weekend or evening work could be required under special circumstances.


Scope of the Position

As an Accounting/Office Assistant you will be required to perform a variety of tasks including:

  • Preparation of Invoices for data entry
  • Data entry of invoices into Accounts Payable and Inventory Control systems
  • Maintenance of Inventory including a variety of reconcilliations and adjustments
  • Creation of new items in the inventory control system and maintenance of existing items
  • Data Entry of Purchase Orders
  • Maintain tracking of vendor claims
  • Contact and work with vendors to resolve shipping and billing issues as required
  • Maintain banking records
  • Copying/Faxing/Filing and other general office, organizational and maintenance tasks
  • Work within the retail store environment if required
  • Other tasks and projects as assigned


Our Requirements

We require the following attributes for this position:

  • Must be a team player and be enthusiastic about helping grow our company
  • Must have the ability to work with little or no supervision
  • Must be highly detail oriented with outstanding organizational skills
  • Must be a quick learner and enjoy learning new and complex tasks
  • Must be a strong oral and written communicator, completely fluent in English
  • Must have a comprehensive understanding of all aspects of accounting and have experience with recognized accounting software
  • Must be familiar with Microsoft Office programs and must have an intermediate or better ability with Microsoft Excel
  • Must have a minimum typing speed of 50 words per minute
  • Experience with ACCPAC Plus accounting software is an asset
  • Experience with Photoshop and other Adobe Creative Cloud software tools is an asset
  • Experience in using social media as it applies to business is an asset
  • Experience in marketing and advertising is an asset
  • Experience in copywriting is an asset


  • Business Administration Degree
  • Business Administration Diploma
  • or Equivalent Relevant Experience
